Wisconsin’s only free children’s book festival returns to the Bookworm Gardens, Mead Public Library and the John Michael Kohler Arts Center in Sheboygan, Wis. on Oct. 9-11.
The three-day Sheboygan Children’s Book Festival provides an opportunity for area youth and their families to explore the world of children’s books through activities and presentations by award-winning national authors and illustrators.
This year’s theme is “A World of Wonders” and festival-goers will be able to create their own World of Wonders travel journal as they collect author/illustrator trading cards while experiencing the 50-plus events including readings, writing and art-making workshops.
Friday night, Oct. 9, the John Michael Kohler Arts Center will host the Justin Roberts Bedtime concert. Roberts is a two-time Grammy nominee and a picture book author. The concert is free but tickets will be made available an hour before the show at the John Michael Kohler Arts Center as seating is limited.
Saturday, Oct. 10, is a full day of events including presentations by New York Times best-selling picture book illustrator Christian Robinson who designed this year’s festival poster.
Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Bookworm Gardens, Green Bay picture book author Miranda Paul will read her latest book, Water Is Water, and participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Water Is Water Garden featuring her book.
In partnership with the Weill Center, the festival’s closing event is a Sunday afternoon performance of Story Pirates. Two hundred free admission vouchers for children will be made available at all three Sheboygan Children Book Festival venues.
